Conditions that can be trigged by the Flu Virus
Bronchitis, Pleurisy, Pneumonia

Any influenza (flu) virus can trigger a wide range of serious complications for sufferers.

Bronchitis: Bronchitis occurs when the mucous membrane of the bronchial tubes come inflamed. The inflammation causes them to swell in size. In turn, this makes the bronchial tubes a lot narrower so we start to cough to the mucous.

Constant coughing is very tiring, and it causes the cilia, our respiratory system's filter hairs, to become blocked. When the cilia become blocked, the air sacs in our lungs can be destroyed, leading to incurable and debilitating conditions such as emphesyma.

Pleurisy: Sometimes flu can trigger pleurisy. Pleurisy occurs when there is a build up of fluid around the lungs. As the fluid mounts, it becomes increasingly difficult to breathe due to the amount of pressure on the lungs. Surgery is often required in order to drain the fluid.

Pneumonia: Pneumonia can follow flu and has the potential to be deadly. Pneumonia occurs when pockets of phlegm build up in th lungs, and in extreme cases they can cover the entire lung.
