Fight the Flu
Natural ways you can help your body recover.

While a flu of pandemic proportions is likely to rquire immediate medical attention and intervention should you contract it, it is handy to know ways in which you can help yourself to recover from viral infections.

Stay home and go to bed. This will firstly stop you from spreading your germs to the wider community. Resting your body will give it time to build up white blood cells to fight infection.

Drink a lot of fluids. Eight glasses of water a day is the recommnded daily amount for well people. You should increase this if you are sick as it helps the body to gt rid of wastes and toxins. Keep off alcohol and caffeine as they will dehydrate your body, and avoid soft drinks that have sugar additives.

Eat less. Digesting food takes up a lot of energy so only eat when you are hungry and stick with simple plain raw fruit or vegetables. Clear soups and broths are ideal, as are oranges which contain a lot of Vitamin C.

Herbs:
Garlic: Eating a clove of garlic is the most effective way to ingest this natural antibiotic. You could eat a garlic sandwich made with wholemeal or wholegrain bread. Garlic tablets are not as effective.

Ginger: Ginger will help your body to sweat out infection. Mix grated ginger with hot water to make a tea, or mix with lemon juice as well as water.

Tea Tree Oil: A great natural disinfectant and anti-bacterial oil which comes from the Australia tea tree. Steam and inhale to aid lungs and breathing.

Vitamins A, B, C, D and Zinc: Vitamin A can be found in green and yellow fruit and vegetables eg. carrots, broccoli, capsicum, brussel sprouts, peas, beans.

Vitamin B can be found naturally in liver and kidney, wholegrain breads, and yeast. A plate of Lambs fry and bacon will give you a big dose of Vitamin B.

Vitamin C - found naturally in citrus fruits eg. oranges and other fruit and vegetables. Include Vitamin C tablets/powders in your diet as well. Overdoses of Vitamin C can cause diarrhoea, so have less if this becomes a problem.

Vitamin D - found naturally in fish livers oils. The sun on your skin also causes the body to product Vitamin D.

Zinc helps blood to create antibodies. Zinc is found naturally in oysters, beans, wholegrains, pumpkin seeds.

Keep Warm: Sweating out toxins helps you to recover quicker, and keeping warm helps you to relax which also helps.
